Which grind type should I buy?
If you have a grinder at home, we always recommend buying whole bean coffee. Other wise, below is a quick reference for several brewing methods with grind type recommended.
How much coffee and water should I use?
In general, the coffee to water ratio should be 1:16 for the most common brewers. So for example, for 30 grams of coffee, 480 grams of water should be used. If you don't have a scale, then use 2 tablespoons of coffee per 8 oz of water (1 cup). Below are several brewers, the recommended grind type and coffee to water ratio.
- Drip Coffee Machine = Medium Drip, 1:16
- Chemex/pour over = Medium Drip or Coarse, 1:16
- Cold Brew Coffee = Coarse, 1:14
- Turkish Coffee = Fine, 1:10
- French Press = Coarse, 1:16
- Espresso = Fine, 1:2
- AeroPress = Medium Drip, Medium-fine or Fine, 1:14
- Percolator = Coarse, 1:2
- Coffee Cupping = Coarse, 1:16
- Moka Pot = Fine, 1:8
- Cafe Solo = Drip-coarse, 1:16
- Siphon Coffee = Medium Drip, 1:14
- Cowboy Coffee = Coarse, 1:16
- Clever Dripper = Medium Drip-Coarse, 1:16
